Three Man Weave Classic
Title: 3 Man Weave Drill Category: Passing Sub-Category: Passing on the Move, Timing, Support Age Categories: U9, U11, U13, U15, U18, Junior, College, Pro, Adult Difficulty: Beginner to Elite Players Needed: 6+ Goalies Needed: 0–1 (optional progression) Equipment Needed: Pucks Space Needed: Full Ice Purpose: Develop passing accuracy, timing, and receiving skills while skating at speed. Improve player communication, puck support, and ability to pass and move in continuous motion. Setup: Players form lines of three across on the goal line (left, center, right lanes). Center player starts with a puck. Players are evenly spaced across the width of the ice. Drill Steps: Center player begins skating forward with the puck up the middle. Center player passes to either outside player. After passing, center player skates behind the player they passed to and moves to the outside lane. Player who receives the puck skates forward and passes to the player in the opposite outside lane. After passing, that player skates behind the receiving player and moves to the outside lane. This passing and weaving pattern continues up the ice. Players maintain spacing and continue passing and skating behind each other. At the far end, players regroup and join a line to repeat drill. Coaching Points: Make accurate, flat passes. Pass in front of teammates to allow skating onto the puck. Communicate clearly with teammates. Skate immediately after passing. Maintain proper spacing between players. Keep head up while skating and passing. Common Mistakes: Passing directly at teammate instead of leading them. Stopping after passing. Poor timing between players. Watching puck instead of scanning ice. Progressions: Players finish with shot on net. Players perform drill while receiving passes on backhand. Add one-touch passing only. Add coach or passive defender. Variations: Continuous 3 Man Weave: Players immediately regroup and return back down ice. Half-Ice Weave: Players perform drill in one zone for younger players. Weave with Shot: Players take shot after final pass. Weave with Regroup: Players regroup with coach before continuing. Time: 8–12 minutes
