Two-Ball 3v1 Rondo
Title: Two-Ball 3v1 Rondo Category: Technical / Possession Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Passing & Receiving, Quick Decision Making, Awareness, First Touch, Defensive Pressure Purpose: Improve speed of thought and technical execution by forcing players to manage two balls while maintaining possession under pressure. Setup: Four cones set up in a square (8–12 yards apart). Three attackers positioned on three cones. One defender in the middle. Two balls start with two of the outside players. Drill Steps: • Play begins with two balls circulating among the three attackers. • Attackers must keep both balls away from the defender. • Players may pass either ball at any time. • Defender attempts to win or deflect either ball. • If defender wins possession, switch with the player who lost it. • Play continues continuously. Coaching Points: • Keep head up and scan constantly. • Communicate clearly and early. • Play firm, accurate passes. • Take clean first touches away from pressure. • Defender closes space and anticipates. Variations: • Two-touch limit. • Add second defender. • Increase or decrease square size. • Add third ball for progression. Time: 8–12 minutes
