Title: Gatekeeper Dribbling Challenge Category: Technical Development Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Dribbling, Ball Control, Awareness, Change of Direction, Use of Both Feet Purpose: Improve close ball control, awareness, and change of direction while encouraging players to dribble with speed and control. Setup: 20 x 20 yard grid (adjust as needed). Set up multiple small gates (two cones per gate) facing different directions. All players start with a ball except two designated gatekeepers. Gatekeepers stand inside a gate to “close” it. Play in 45-second rounds. Drill Steps: • Players dribble and attempt to go through as many open gates as possible. • Players keep track of their own score. • Gatekeepers must switch to a new gate every five seconds. • Players must avoid closed gates. • After 45 seconds, stop and record scores. • Repeat and challenge players to beat their previous score. Coaching Points: • Take tight touches when entering gates. • Accelerate after exiting a gate. • Keep head up to recognize open and closed gates. • Use both feet and different surfaces to change direction. • Stay balanced and under control. Variations: • If a gatekeeper steals a ball, that player becomes a gatekeeper. • Last player still dribbling wins. • Add time limit for using weaker foot only. • Reduce grid size to increase difficulty. Time: 8–12 minutes
