Drill Description

Dribble Knockout Competition Drill Objective Develop ball protection skills and spatial awareness while building a competitive mindset and controlled aggression in a live dribbling environment. Age Categories U9, U11, U13, U15 Tags Dribbling, Competition, Ball Protection Equipment Needed - 1 basketball per player Players 6+ players Space Needed Half court or defined circle area Purpose - Develop ball protection skills - Improve awareness in traffic - Build competitive mindset - Practice controlled aggression Setup - All players begin dribbling inside the designated area. - Coach clearly explains boundaries. - No excessive contact is allowed. - All players must stay within the area while maintaining control. Drill Steps - All players dribble continuously inside the area. - Players attempt to knock other players’ basketballs out of bounds while protecting their own. - If a player’s ball leaves the area, that player exits the round. - Remaining players continue competing. - Last player remaining wins the round. Progressions / Variations - Weak-hand dribbling only. - Limit dribble height below the waist. - Two-ball round (advanced groups). - Allow re-entry after completing a quick skill task. - Shrink the playing area to increase pressure. Coaching Points - Keep body between defender and ball. - Stay low and wide for balance. - Control speed — don’t panic. - Protect with the off-arm legally. - Keep eyes up and scan the area. Common Mistakes - Reaching instead of shielding. - Standing too tall. - Losing balance when changing direction. - Over-aggression leading to fouls. - Dribbling too high. Time Range 6–8 minutes
