Tic Tac Toe Dribbling Race
Title: Tic Tac Toe Dribbling Race Category: Technical Warm-Up / Competition Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Dribbling, Ball Control, Speed & Agility, Awareness, Competition Purpose: Develop controlled dribbling at speed while encouraging awareness, decision making, and competitive teamwork. Setup: Create two tic tac toe grids using cones (3x3 each). Divide players into two equal teams. Each team lines up with a supply of balls 10–15 yards from their grid. One player goes at a time. Drill Steps: • On coach’s signal, first player from each team dribbles to their grid. • Player places their ball in one square of the tic tac toe grid. • Player runs back and tags next teammate. • Teams attempt to complete tic tac toe (3 in a row). • Instead of placing a ball, a player may move one of the opponent’s balls to a different square. • First team to complete tic tac toe wins. • Reset and repeat. Coaching Points: • Dribble under control at speed. • Keep head up approaching the grid. • Make quick decisions. • Communicate strategy with teammates. • Accelerate on return to line. Variations: • Weak foot only. • Add slalom before reaching grid. • Limit time per round. • Require specific surface of foot when dribbling. Time: 8–12 minutes
