Cone Pattern Shooting
Title: Four-Cone Pattern Shooting Category: Technical Warm-Up / Finishing Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Passing & Receiving, Combination Play, First Touch, Finishing, Movement Off Ball Purpose: Develop clean combination passing patterns leading into a controlled finish while reinforcing movement after the pass. Setup: Place four cones in a diamond or square shape outside the penalty area. One goal with goalkeeper. Players positioned at each cone. Ball starts at top cone (or designated starting point). Drill Steps: • Ball is passed in a set pattern between cones. • Players follow their pass to the next cone. • Final pass sets up a player for a shot on goal. • After shooting, player retrieves ball and rotates to next position. • Continue pattern from alternating sides. Coaching Points: • Move immediately after passing. • Play firm, accurate passes. • Open body to receive. • Positive first touch into shooting space. • Finish with composure and accuracy. Variations: • One-touch in combination. • Add defender to apply pressure. • Change passing pattern. • Require weak foot finish. Time: 8–12 minutes
