Title: Corner Activation 2v2 to 4v4 Category: Small-Sided Games Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Numerical Advantage, Support Play, Transition, Decision Making, Combination Play, Defensive Recovery Purpose: Train players to recognize and create numerical advantages while reacting quickly in transition moments. Setup: One goal with goalkeeper. Four corner lines (one in each corner of the grid). Start with 2v2 inside the playing area. Each team has one teammate lined up in each of their two opposite corners. Players activate teammates by passing to their own corner line. Drill Steps: • Play begins 2v2 toward one goal. • Team in possession can pass to their corner line to activate a teammate (3v2). • They may activate the second corner to create 4v2. • Team can only score once all 4 players are activated. • If defending team wins possession, they can pass to their corner first to create a 3v3 or 4v3 advantage. • Play continues until goal or ball out of bounds. • Reset to 2v2 after each round. Coaching Points: • Recognize the right moment to activate support. • Play forward quickly when advantage is created. • Move off the ball to create passing lanes. • React immediately in transition. • Defend compactly while outnumbered. Variations: • Limit number of touches before activation. • Require one-touch pass to activate teammate. • Add time limit to score after reaching 4v2. • Increase grid size for older groups. Time: 10–15 minutes
