Five-Player Star Passing Drill Drill Objective Improve passing accuracy and quick decision-making while reinforcing pivot footwork and proper spacing in a five-player perimeter formation. Age Categories U11, U13, U15, U18, College, Adult Tags Passing, Footwork, Movement, Warm-Up Equipment Needed - 1 basketball - Cones (optional) Players 5 players per group Space Needed Half court Purpose - Improve passing accuracy - Develop catch-and-pass rhythm - Reinforce pivoting and footwork - Build communication habits Setup - Arrange 5 players in a pentagon (star shape). - Maintain equal spacing between players. - One ball starts with any player. - Players remain in their spots. Drill Steps - Player with the ball passes to the next player in the pattern. - Receiver catches in triple threat. - Receiver pivots and immediately passes to the next player. - Continue around the perimeter. - Reverse direction on coach’s call. Progressions / Variations - Skip pass across the star. - Add shot fake before pass. - Two-ball version. - Add defender in middle. Coaching Points - Pass to target hand. - Pivot before passing. - Stay balanced. - Communicate early. - Maintain spacing. Common Mistakes - Drifting from spots. - Lazy pivots. - Floating passes. - Holding the ball too long. Time Range 5–7 minutes
