Drill Description

Title: Goalie Call-Out Reaction Saves Category: Goalkeeping Age Tags: U11, U13, U15, U17, 19U+ Skill Tags: Goalkeeper Footwork, Reaction Speed, Positioning, Low Saves, Agility Purpose: Improve goalkeeper footwork, reaction time, and ability to reset quickly before making a save. Setup: Place one cone 10 yards outside the left post. Place one cone 10 yards outside the right post. Goalkeeper starts centered in goal. Coach stands centrally with supply of balls. Drill Steps: • Coach calls “left” or “right.” • Goalkeeper sprints to the called cone. • Coach rolls a ball toward goal as keeper recovers. • Goalkeeper must reset and make the save. • Repeat from alternating sides. Coaching Points: • Explode quickly on call. • Stay balanced while turning and recovering. • Get set before the shot. • Hands low and ready for rolling ball. • Recover to proper goal-side position. Variations: • Increase speed of service. • Add second ball immediately after first save. • Vary shot type (low, mid, high). • Reduce recovery time between call and shot. Time: 6–10 minutes
