Each team has two additional players waiting in their corner jail. Coach starts the drill with a dump-in. Drill Steps: • Coach dumps a puck into the zone to start the 2 vs 2 game. • Teams compete for puck possession. • A team can free one teammate from their jail by making a controlled pass to them. • The freed player joins the play immediately. • Teams can continue freeing teammates until they reach 4 vs 4. • Teams may only score once all of their jailed players have been freed. Coaching Points: • Support the puck carrier to create passing options. • Keep head up and look for opportunities to free teammates. • Make firm, accurate passes to the jail players. • Move quickly after freeing a teammate to create advantage. Variations: • Require one-touch passes to free teammates. • Allow scoring once a team reaches 3 players. • Play cross-ice to increase pace. Time: 8–12 minutes
