Drill Description

Title: Gates Passing Small Area Games Age Tags: U9, U11, U13, U15, U18+ Skill Tags: Passing, Receiving, Puck Support, Decision Making, Awareness Purpose: Develop passing accuracy, communication, and movement to open space while working with a partner. Setup: Create a small area using a zone or station. Set up multiple gates using cones, tires, or pucks. Players work in pairs with one puck per pair. Drill Steps: • Partners move within the area while maintaining puck possession. • Players complete passes through gates to each other. • After each successful pass, players move to a new gate. • Players cannot use the same gate twice in a row. • Continue for time and count how many gates each pair completes. Coaching Points: • Keep head up to find open gates. • Communicate with partner. • Move to open space after each pass. • Make accurate passes through gates. • Receive puck in position to make next play quickly. Variations: • Add more gates or reduce gate size. • Add obstacles inside the area. • Require one-touch passes. • Add a second puck for advanced players. Time: 30–60 seconds per round
